CORE Firefly! 200 Lumen Lantern 2-Pack: A Bright and Compact Camping Companion

When it comes to camping gear, lighting can make or break the experience. Whether you're setting up camp after sunset, reading inside your tent, or enjoying a late-night card game, a reliable lantern is a must-have. The CORE Firefly! 200 Lumen Lantern 2-Pack promises to deliver bright, even light in a compact and durable design. We spent several nights with this lantern in various settings to see if it lives up to the hype.

In this hands-on review, we'll dive into the design, performance, battery life, and overall value of the CORE Firefly! 200 Lumen Lantern 2-Pack. We'll also compare it to other popular options like the Firefly! Jett the Astronaut Chair and the 20 Liter/36 Can Performance Soft Cooler Tote to help you decide if this lantern deserves a spot in your camping kit.

First Impressions and Design

The CORE Firefly! 200 Lumen Lantern 2-Pack arrives as two compact lanterns, each about the size of a soda can. They're lightweight and easy to grip, with a textured surface that feels sturdy even in wet conditions. The lanterns feature a simple pull-up design to activate the light, which is intuitive and quick to use—no fumbling with buttons in the dark.

The build quality feels solid for the price point. The plastic body is durable enough to withstand accidental drops, and the integrated hook at the top allows for easy hanging from a tent ceiling or tree branch. The lanterns also have a flat base, so they can stand on any level surface without tipping over.

• Compact and lightweight: each lantern weighs just 5.6 ounces
• Pull-up activation for one-handed operation
• Built-in hook for hanging and flat base for tabletop use

Brightness and Light Quality

With 200 lumens, the Firefly! lanterns provide plenty of light for a small campsite or tent interior. The light is diffused through a frosted globe, creating a soft, even glow that reduces harsh shadows. In our testing, a single lantern comfortably illuminated a 10x10 area, making it perfect for cooking, reading, or playing games.

The lanterns offer two brightness settings: high (200 lumens) and low (100 lumens). On low, the light is still sufficient for ambient lighting and can extend battery life significantly. There's no strobe or SOS mode, which is fine for most campers, but if you need emergency signaling, you might want to look elsewhere.

• Two brightness settings: high (200 lumens) and low (100 lumens)
• Frosted globe diffuses light for even coverage
• Ideal for tent interiors and small campsites

Battery Life and Power

The Firefly! lanterns run on 3 AAA batteries each (not included). In our tests, they lasted approximately 8 hours on high and 20 hours on low. That's respectable for a compact lantern, though not outstanding. If you're planning a long trip, you'll want to pack spare batteries or consider a rechargeable option.

One nice touch is the battery indicator light that blinks when batteries are running low, giving you a heads-up before the light dies completely. The battery compartment is easy to access with a simple twist-off base, and the design prevents accidental opening.

Durability and Weather Resistance

We tested the lanterns in light rain and they held up well, thanks to the IPX4 water resistance rating. They can handle splashes and brief exposure to rain, but they're not submersible. The rubberized base provides a secure grip on wet surfaces, and the overall construction feels like it can handle the bumps and jostles of a camping trip.

After several days in a backpack, the lanterns showed no signs of wear. The pull-up mechanism remained smooth, and the light output stayed consistent. For the price, the durability is impressive.
